I don’t know about you, but up until now, getting people to sign up to my subscriber list has been a challenge.
I’ve only gotten handfuls of people each month. 🙁
But I made a change recently that has caused a sudden HUGE increase in the number of subscribers I’m getting.
I am so happy!
How did I do it?
Did I add a pop-up box or welcome mat?
No. I have a personal vendetta with pop-ups and drop-downs and anything else that blocks my readers from viewing my content or my products.
Comes from previously living in a location where the internet was slow. I’d have to wait 5 minutes for a blog’s text, images, and pop-ups to load and then close all of those annoying extras before I could read the blog post. Then, if I clicked on a link to another post on that blog, I’d have to wait ANOTHER 5 minutes while everything loaded and close the pop-ups all over again.
No. The tool I found for increasing subscribers is a lot less intrusive and actually BENEFITS my readers.
Want to know what it is?
It’s a plugin called Post Gopher and I’m going to tell you what I did with it.
*This post contains affiliate links. I earn a small commission from the sale of products purchased via these links. Please see my disclosure for details.
Now first of all, you should know that I’m cautious about the number of plugins that I have on my sites. Too many plugins can cause security and technical issues so I am very choosy about the ones that I have.
THIS plugin, however, I found is worth having. Here’s why.
What Post Gopher does is that it turns your blog posts into PDFs which the readers get in their inboxes. It also adds those readers who requested the PDFs to your subscriber list.
You see, Post Gopher adds one or more buttons to each blog post that says something like GET A FREE PDF VERSION OF THIS POST. The words can be whatever you like them to be as well as the design of the button. You can see an example of them at the top and bottom of this post right now. Feel free to click on one now.
When the reader clicks a button, a box pops up for her to give her name and email address to receive the PDF. (I don’t mind that kind of pop-up because it only comes up when a reader requests something.)
After the reader provides her information, an email is sent to her inbox with a link to the PDF that is available for a limited time. (You set the time limit.)
It’s that simple.
Post Gopher enables you to add buttons to the top and/or bottom of every post on your site with just a click. You can also exclude certain posts from having the buttons if you like.
This plugin has been a godsend for me because for years I’ve been wanting to have my activities and lessons on Homeschool With Love in a printer-friendly format but I didn’t want to go to the trouble of creating PDFs for each one.
Now, thanks to Post Gopher, I do. It’s an incredible time-saver for me that also collects subscribers…a win-win situation.
I also make a point of mentioning and linking to one or more of my products in many of my blog posts so it works as a promotion for them too.
Post Gopher also has an Expansion Pack that adds another opportunity for promotion…a Profit-Page Builder. This enables you to write and add an additional page (or pages) to all your PDFs that promote your shop. You can include text, pictures, and clickable links. You can even include an invitation for readers to follow you on social media. 🙂
Another feature of this Expansion Pack is that you can combine multiple posts/pages into one PDF bundle for your readers. This is great for a series.
One final feature of this Pack is the ability to put Post Gopher shortcodes anywhere on your site. I use some of their shortcodes to hide ads so that they don’t show up on the PDFs.
Overall, I think the Post Gopher Expansion Pack is a phenomenal add-on to the Post Gopher plugin.
Now, I want to leave you with one last tip about using the Post Gopher plugin.
After I got it set up on my sites, I wrote blog posts announcing the free PDFs. You can see the ones I wrote for each of my blogs and publishing site below:
- Get Tons of Free Homeschool Curriculum, Tips, and Ideas in PDF Format on Homeschool With Love
- Get Free Homeschool Resources, Lists, and Tips in PDF Format on Learning Online Blog
- Get Free Self-Pubishing Tips and Tricks in PDF Format on Self-Publish Educationally Speaking
- Free PDFs Now Available on Warm Hearts Publishing
I found that doing so really helped to get the word out about these freebies.
